Renamed after the 1881 Henry James Novel it is a modern, elegant and unusual expression of the Victorian novel. It’s like heroin, Isabel Archer and her fate with the quest of freedom. She smells of dark roses, mystical and intense. The perfume is a spicy rose fragrance that varies between the oriental and Chypre olfactive family with the patchouli dominating its foundations. It is true sophistication. A bouquet of roses in a polished silver vase, old books with gold edged pages, smoke from a pipe, spices in a jar, clove cigarettes in a lacquered wooden box or perhaps gilded frames with imposing landscapes, or even the most expensive cabaret or moulin rouge. This fragrance is truly an experience and very special. It is not for the ones that love the fashionable sweet fruity fragrances, this is probably the only timeless fragrance you will ever lay your hands on.

Absolutely love this and one of my summer scents! After one spray, some friends a few feet away from me, commented and asked what scent it was, they love it too. Permeated the whole room and lasted all day.
I’ve never tried the original Frederic Malle so can’t comment on comparison. But I do recommend this if you like fresh scent, it’s just gorgeous!

Received this today. Packaged well, but for me, did not smell like the original Frederick Mallé fragrance at all. A little disappointed but at the same time I appreciate that this won’t be an exact copy. Nice all the same but not sure I would wear too often.

This is the second bottle I’ve bought of this for my mam. She loves it and it’s ended up being one of my favourite perfumes for the cooler months too. It’s super strong aswell. I can smell my mam coming from about ten feet away when she’s wearing it and it lasts forever. The original is a beast mode fragrance and this is no different. Portrait of a Lady is a stunning perfume, classy and warm, spicy, with fruits, and incense, patchouli, rose, clove and cinnamon and Eden have made a spot on clone of it. I bought a sample of the original last year to test side by side and they’re identical. It gets me so many compliments whenever I wear it. It smells like something a rich old lady would wear. Some people find it too mature or too strong but not me, I love how strong it is and how nobody else I know wears it.

Just stunning. It’s like a modern version of Mitsouko, like vintage and contemporary perfume had a love child. I absolutely adore it and can imagine it becoming my elusive signature scent. So beautiful.
