No.268 Royal Oud - Oriental Fougere Unisex

£24.00
Bottle Size

Wood, marble, and gold. These luxurious elements of a Persian palace are the inspiration behind the architecture of Royal Oud. A grand melange of silky sandalwood and Lebanese cedar lead to the smooth woody depth of lush galbanum and peppery angelica. The opulent and majestic base reveals precious oud, one of the rarest and most revered of ingredients so greatly esteemed by ancient Asian cultures. An imposing fragrance for a lady or gentleman of spiritual refinement and assured elegance. The drydown is gorgeous. once this matures and starts to dry up it starts smelling quite royal.

Since Creed fragrances are pricy enough to be the sole preserve of commercial property developers and professional footballers, Eden’s ethical versions seem a good way to try some of these vaunted classics. And so to Royal Oud. The OG is billed as a very cedar-y fragrance with (oddly) minimal oud, so as a cedar fan I gave this one strong blast to the jugular and settled in for the ride. OOF! The opening is akin to being coshed over the head by a giant peppermill-wielding lemon vendor. Five minutes later I was so overpowered I started to feel a bit iffy and had to roll my turtleneck up another two inches to protect my sensibilities. It’s potent, people, be careful not to OU-D. Happily, as it dries down and heads towards the two hour mark it becomes something more refined, yet exceedingly full of eastern promise, with a swirling, opulent, incense-y vibe. Four hours in, we’ve made firm friends and, I should add, the quality seems excellent. Go easy on this one, it’s probably not the choice for casually sashaying down to Aldi for a bag of nuts, more for a formal evening affair or banquet at the Shah’s palace. Or if you’re WFH and feel like transporting yourself somewhere special for the day on your magic carpet.
